Which Leave Management System is Best for You?

As with most things, there’s no one best system for managing your employees’ leave—just the one that best suits your business needs.

These software systems are all limited by a number of factors. However, all the systems on this list stand out from the crowd for specific reasons, and almost all of them have a user base in India. You may prefer the way they implement certain features you rely on or find them better suited to your needs in some other way.

To be honest, it can be difficult to compare these leave management systems because they all offer so many similar features. Whether a particular software is right for you depends on what features you need, how many team members you have, and what your budget is. In the end, my top picks are a great place to start, and each brings something special to the table. I suggest you check out their free trials and go from there.

FAQs

Q. What is the leave management system?

A leave management system is a software solution that automates the process of requesting and approving leave for an organisation’s employees. The software also helps in creating multiple leave policies that comply with labour laws, sharing them with employees, tracking leave trends, automatically crediting leave according to set rules, and much more.

Some of the most common types of leave that private sector employees in India are entitled to include annual or privileged leave, casual leave (CL), sick leave (SL), and maternity and paternity leave, based on government labour laws and company policies.

Section 79 of the Act requires organisations to provide earned leave to employees who’ve worked at least 240 days in the previous year. Adult employees must earn one day’s leave for every 20 days worked, and juvenile employees one day’s leave for every 15.

‘PL’ and ‘CL’ refer to different types of leave in the workplace: ‘Personal Leave’ (flexible for personal reasons, with or without pay) and ‘casual leave’ (usually unpaid, for short-term personal reasons).

The biggest benefit of integrated leave management software with payroll is that it consolidates all the required deductions based on leave taken and calculates everything automatically. This richer data saves a huge amount of HR time that can be invested in the real task at hand.
